MADISON, Wis. — A fire at an apartment complex on Madison’s west side Thursday night displaced a family, the city’s fire department said.

The fire broke out just before 7:40 p.m. at an apartment in the 5000 block of Sheboygan Avenue. When firefighters got to the scene, they saw smoke coming from a first-floor window and a vent on the roof, according to a news release.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, which started in the kitchen area. Crews are still working to figure out what caused the fire.

The American Red Cross was notified to help those displaced, the release said. No injuries were reported, and no one was inside when the fire broke out.

The release did not provide a damage estimate.
