Family displaced after home struck by lightning
Three people are displaced after their home in the town of Blooming Grove was hit by lightning Wednesday afternoon.
The house in the 3300 block of Swinburne Drive was damaged in the lightning strike, but no one was injured.
Kim Virovatz, the homeowner, said a friend emailed her after hearing a loud boom at work nearby.
Virovatz said most of the electrical system and drywall in the house will need to be replaced, but she’s glad no one got hurt.
“It’s a shock what lightning can do,” Virovatz said. “They said we were lucky no one was home because someone very well could have gotten killed if someone was home.”
Virovatz said while they don’t have a damage estimate yet, her family will likely be displaced for months.
