Extreme drought continues for Southern Wisconsin

The latest report released by the U.S. Drought Monitor shows the extreme drought continues in southern Wisconsin.

Parts of central Wisconsin have been classified as severe or abnormally dry.

Wednesday the federal government declared 23 Wisconsin counties as federal disaster areas.

The U.S. drought monitor maps are based on analysis of climate and rain data.

The map released Thursday put 53 percent of the country in moderate drought.

Twenty percent of the country is dealing with extreme or exceptional drought, an increase of 7 percent from last week.
