Extra security measures dropped at East HS

Threat causes extra security measures at Madison East HS

Madison East High School Principal Michael Hernandez has dropped plans to add security at the high school Thursday after a threat has been determined to be a joke.

There were plans to add extra precautions at East Thursday morning after a threat was written on a bathroom wall.

However, Hernandez sent a new letter to parents Thursday indicating the threat was no longer believed to be real.

“We’ve made contact with the students and families, who have confirmed the students were involved, and indicated that the comment was intended to be a joke,” said Hernandez in the letter. “We are now taking appropriate follow-up steps. Please know that students involved will be dealt with both with MPD as well as school consequences.”

“Through discussions with our Safety Coordinator, MPD as well as Administration, we have determined that there is no threat to our school and we plan to have a safe and normal school day,” said Hernandez.

Hernandez had planned all bags and backpacks to be searched as students arrive and not allow students off campus during the lunch hour.
