‘Everyone knows Amazon’: Beloit celebrates new Amazon warehouse and what it means for workers

BELOIT, Wis. – With timing that seems to match the company’s speedy delivery options, Amazon is expanding in Wisconsin, building a 1 million-square-foot warehouse distribution center in Beloit, just a few months after the company first looked into the idea.

Lori Curtis Luther, the Beloit city manager, said the company first reached out in September, looking for a large space on which it could build a new facility quickly. She said the company broke ground in October, and now, in January, announced it will bring 500 jobs to the area.

“I think it’s incredibly important, the value of a household name right here in Beloit,” Curtis Luther said. “Everyone knows Amazon.”

The executive director for the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation, Andrew Janke, said the announcement brings “good jobs with great benefits.”
