Evangeline “Eve” Wienkes, age 88, of Highland, died on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital Medical Center following a heart attack.
The former Eve Peterson was born in June of 1925 in Eden Township to Henry A. and Emma A. (Speth) Peterson. She was a 1944 graduate of the Cobb High School.
Eve married Robert “Bob” Wienkes of Highland on November 27, 1951 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Highland. The couple farmed on the Wienkes Family Farm near Highland until semi-retiring in 1988. Eve then worked for several years as a cook for the Highland School District. Eve was a dedicated member of Ss. Anthony & Philip Parish and the Altar Society. Her favorite pastimes included cooking, baking, sewing, dancing and gardening. Her greatest joy was time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob on September 23, 1997; a daughter, Sue Ann on February 16, 1959; her parents; two sisters, Mildred Haas and Geraldine Bentzler and brothers-in-law, Francis Fingerson, John Allen, Harold Haas; Daniel Bentzler and Henry Gullick.
Eve is survived by four children, Marcia (Mark) Hennessey; Tom (Lauri) Wienkes; Gary (Denise) Wienkes and Lisa (Tom) Riley, all of Highland; 12 grandchildren, Rob (Sarah) Hennessey; Michelle Rick; Rachel (Nick) Smith; Melissa (Derrick) Reigel; Peyron Pieters (Jeff Reinke); Cassandra (Rob) Dixon; Allison Wienkes; Whitney (James) Snyder; Lexie Wienkes; Derek Riley; Kinsey Riley and Mitchell Riley; seven great grandchildren; Drew, Myah and Anna Hennessey; Reece and Gavin Rick; Sophia Pieters and Jordy Snyder; her twin sister, Ann Gullick of Dodgeville; two sisters-in-law, Bernadette Hying and Mary Jean Wienkes, both of Highland as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass Of Christian Burial will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, September 23, 2013 at Ss. Anthony & Philip Catholic Church in Highland with Fr. Jim Murphy officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 3:30 P.M. until 6:45 P.M.
Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery on Tuesday.
