Evacuees return home, to work after contractor hits gas line in Reedsburg
REEDSBURG, Wis. — About 20 homes and two businesses had to be evacuated after a contractor hit a gas line around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
The Reedsburg Police and fire departments and the Reedsburg Area Ambulance Serviceresponded to the scene and officials said Alliant Energy was on the scene within minutes. Officials said the gas was turned off by noon.
People were allowed to return to their homes and workplaces by 12:45 p.m., according to the release.
Alliant Energy officials said a contractor — Gerke Excavating, of Tomah — struck a gas pipe Thursday morning near South Dewey Avenue. The contractor was working on a road project, officials said. No one is expected to be without gas service after the incident, officials said.Officials said there were no injuries.
The roadwork has been suspended while Alliant Energy completes repairs in the area.
