Eugene P. “Gene” Buechner
Eugene “Gene” Buechner, age 73, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 7, 1939 in Madison to Edward and Elizabeth (Krantz) Buechner. He graduated from Edgewood High School in 1957. Gene was united in marriage to Alice Klein on July 4, 1963 at St. Joseph’s in East Bristol. Gene joined the City of Madison Fire Department in 1962, became a paramedic and retired as a Lieutenant in 1994, after 32 years of service. He owned and operated Gene’s Dental Repair for 23 years.
Gene was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4527. Over the years Gene donated 32 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross. He enjoyed fishing, especially his annual trips to Lake of the Woods with his brothers and buddies, making his last trip 7 weeks ago. He also enjoyed weekends at his cabin in Montello. Gene volunteered at Luke House, St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, and the Knights of Columbus. He also made thousands of wire rosaries and visited schools the past 10 years demonstrating how the rosaries were crafted. He enjoyed traveling to other countries, with the trip to the Holy Land last November being especially impressive. Gene was always putting other people first, and was a great listener. We will miss his gentle sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice; children: Susan (Jeff Blank) Buechner of Madison, Paul of Minnesota and Deborah (Aaron) Gruenloh of Marshfield; grandchildren: Mitchell Blank and Tim and Elizabeth Gruenloh; siblings, Jerry (Marilyn) Buechner, Frank (Valery) Buechner of Madison, Ginny (Richard) Lynch of Athens, GA and Daniel (Linda) Buechner of Warrenton, MO; and also many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Bob Campbell and sister-in-law, Beatrice Buechner.
