MADISON-Eric William Sandsnes, age 52, of Madison, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017, at UW Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1964, in Madison, the son of Arden and Reeta (Smith) Sandsnes.

Eric graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1982. He attended UW Platteville and completed coursework at MATC. Eric became a professional land surveyor and was a member of the Wisconsin Society of Professional Land Surveyors. His favorite pastime was anything sports car related. Eric loved working on and racing sports cars. He was an active member of the Midwestern Council of Sports Car Club and Madison Sports Car Club. At different points, he was MC President, School Director, Lead Instructor, MC Race Steward and MSCC Club Steward. Eric was a very engaging and gregarious man. He had an infectious personality, with a sharp and witty sense of humor and was able to walk up and start a conversation with anyone.

Eric loved spending time with his friends and family and was very generous and cared deeply about the welfare of all of them. He enjoyed camping with his family up north, traveling, going to the races, watching movies and listening to a variety of music. He was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Eric is survived by his loving partner, Jennifer Nick; brother, Carl Sandsnes; sister, Terri Zimmerman; nieces and nephews, Jeremy (Sarah) Sandsnes, Michael (Melissa) Sandsnes, Donald Sandsnes, Christine (Michael) Paisant and Chad (Jessica) Zimmerman; former wife, Ronda Sandsnes; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews and his racing family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Christian Sandsnes; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. A private burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Society of Professional Land Surveyors Education Fund.
