Empty stroller walk remembers babies gone too soon

MADISON, Wis. – Families gathered at the State Capitol Friday to push empty strollers, a symbolic gesture remembering babies who have died.

The walk was done as part of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, which is recognized throughout October.

Organizers of the walk say one in four Wisconsin women will experience a miscarriage or loss of a baby or infant.

“Tonight is really special that parents have the ability to have something physical to grasp onto,” organizer Kim Whitmore said. “Many families will push memory bears or photos their babies just to help have that a really unique special connection to their baby and honor and celebrate their babies even though they are not physically here”

The hope is to make this walk an annual event.
