Emily Holm, age 83, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 15, 2014. Emily was born October 20, 1931 in Eau Claire, WI to Kenneth and Ethel Thorn. She grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1949. Emily attended 2 years at Eau Claire State Technical College. She moved to Madison in 1953 and worked for the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. It was in Madison that Emily also met her husband, David Holm. They married on May 25, 1958. Later she worked for the DeForest School District, first as a teacher’s aide at Morrisonville Elementary and retired as a cook at Leeds Elementary, where she has a garden named Mrs. Holm’s Butterfly Garden. She was an avid reader, did her daily crosswords, followed politics and a big sports fan, following the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers. Emily was a loving mother and grandmother, adored by her family. Her absence will leave a hole in our family and she will be greatly missed.
Emily is survived by her son, Tom (Connie) of Rocky Point, IN; daughter, Holly (Alan) Rubenstein of Buffalo Grove, IL; granddaughters, Gillian Emily and Abby Danielle Rubenstein; brother, Norman Thorn of Eau Claire. Further survived by nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by her husband; sister, Gloria (Vernon) Janke.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 3:00PM until 6:00PM at Emily’s home.
