Elkhorn police asking public for tips about truck involved in fatal hit-and-run

ELKHORN, Wis. — Elkhorn police are searching for the driver responsible for hitting and killing a man Sunday night on County Highway H.

Police were originally dispatched to the 400 block of County Highway H around 10:30 p.m. for a report of an unconscious man who was found in a ditch. Responding officers attempted life-saving measures, but the man ultimately died at the scene.

The victim, 70-year-old Francisco Garcia of Lake Geneva, was walking on the highway when the pickup truck hit him and drove off.

Authorities issued a statewide crime alert for the fatal hit-and-run on Monday saying they’re looking for a silver GMC pickup truck with possible minor damage to the passenger-side headlight. The truck may also be lifted slightly with chrome rims.

According to the alert, the truck was last seen traveling south on Highway H away from Gateway Technical College.

Anyone who sees the truck or has information about one matching its description is asked to call the Elkhorn Police Department at 262-723-2210and ask to speak with Detective Kim Bass. Anonymous tips can also be made by calling Walworth County Crime Stoppers at 262-723-2677.

The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, Elkhorn Area Fire Department and Lake Geneva Fire Department responded to the crash.
