Elizabeth Josephine “Betty” Motelet

MADISON - Elizabeth Josephine “Betty” Motelet, 93, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2017, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Madison on February 19, 1924, to George and Josephine (Moore) Gorry. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1942 and met the love of her life, Jerome “Jerry” Motelet. They were united in marriage at St. Raphael’s Cathedral on July 8, 1944, and were inseparable ever since.

Together Betty and Jerry shared a love of music and dancing, surrounding themselves with good friends and family. Betty led a life rich in faith. Her greatest joy and accomplishment was raising their 12 children. Forever active and youthful, Betty was always present in the lives of her 25 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud. She had a genuine love for people, and her arms were always open. She was also fiercely proud of her Irish heritage and could always be found dressed in green from head to toe on March 17. One might even catch her doing an Irish jig. Whatever the date, her Irish eyes were always smiling.

Betty is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Jerry, as well as her children Mike (Rose) Motelet, Bill (Mary) Motelet, Ruth (Jim) Collins, Carol (Bob) Clark, Catherine “Gigi” (Gary) Bethke, Margie (Kyle) Barry, Jeff Motelet (Daniel Guerra), James “JT” (Laura) Motelet, Kris (Sam) Buscemi, Teresa (Tom) Beecher and Jill (Mike) Lilly. Her grandchildren are Lori, Amy, Christopher, Steven, Gregg, Bill, Patrick, Shannon, Rob, Brenda, Garrett, Damian, Cole, Brett, Lisa, Jeffrey, Jimmy, Nick, Parker, Sam, Courtney, Nick, Justin, Olivia and Jack. Betty’s great-grandchildren are Braeden, Hunter, Cade, Haleigh, Ajay, Sarah, Ben, Clara, Preston, Maddie, Mara, Macy, Cambry, Sadie Grace, Josie, Ari, Nico, Mila, Alexis, Bentley, Jaxon, Andrew, Reese, Trevor, Carson, Drake and Mason.

She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Rosemary, parents George and Josephine Gorry, and sisters Edna May Doyle and Irene Taylor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 at noon at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, with Msgr. Kenneth Fiedler officiating. Visitation will be held from 10am until time of Mass. Burial will immediately follow the mass at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Madison.

The family respectfully requests that memorials may be made to Catherine Bethke Elementary School, 4535 E. Ventana Parkway, Katy, TX 77493. This school is named in honor of one of Betty’s daughters.

A special thanks to the staff of Heritage Assisted Living, Middleton, Wis., and Agrace HospiceCare, Madison, for their caring support through Betty’s last few months.
