EF-1 tornado in Monroe Co. destroys two buildings

NORWALK, Wis. — Two buildings were destroyed by an EF-1 tornado that touched down in Monroe County on Wednesday.

Authorities with Monroe County Emergency Management said the tornado touched down in the area of County Highway T and Kingfisher Road. The Norwalk Sportsman’s Club and a barn were both completely destroyed, according to a news release.

The tornado traveled roughly six miles east toward County Highway U, causing significant tree damage, but no serious structural damage.

Power lines in the area were knocked down, but crews were able to restore power relatively quickly.

Officials said the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail west of County T is impassable because of downed trees blocking the trail.

County Highway T was closed for a short time while debris was cleared from the roadway.
