Editorial: Working toward a state where every child thrives

This is the first time I remember a story fitting so perfectly two of our editorial agenda items, but the Wisconsin Legislature’s Children’s Caucus meetings on community efforts to strengthen families is a place where citizens can work together to help children thrive.

The five meetings will be held around the state, and while Madison is not one of the locations all five together represent a cross-section of Wisconsin families and children’s issues.

The sessions are an opportunity for legislators to question local experts in the areas of child abuse and neglect prevention and services to at-risk families. Best of all, it is a bipartisan group with a mission of “cultivating a legislature dedicated to advancing promising, evidence-informed policy that improves the life of every Wisconsin child.”

Exactly what we had in mind when we drew up our agenda for the year. We the citizens will be looking for results.
