Editorial: Veto Taco Bell
MADISON, Wis. — We kind of wish the debate over whether or not to grant a liquor license to a Taco Bell restaurant on State Street in Downtown Madison was, instead of a consideration of a veto of the license application, more a consideration of a veto of Taco Bell.
There’s something contradictory about a fast food restaurant that caters mostly to young people serving alcohol. And there is no shortage of establishments on State Street selling alcohol. It doesn’t really seem like we need another. But we also get that businesses that operate legally and follow the rules should be able to make money.
The bigger question for us is, in a city that has now an abundance of high quality Mexican restaurants with some serious good tacos, why would anyone go to Taco Bell? If hungry Madisonians would familiarize themselves with the terrific, authentic Mexican food available…with a beer or glass of wine in most cases…this Taco Bell issue would resolve itself.
