Editorial: Restore the dream
MADISON, Wis. — Madison Deputy Mayor Gloria Reyes, Centro Hispano Executive Director Karen Menendez Coller, community leaders and “Dreamers” joined thousands of others at events in cities across the country Wednesday, calling for immediate comprehensive immigration reform as part of a National Day of Action.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, recipients who have been affected by the termination of the program talked about the impact new legislation would have on their lives and the importance of acting now.
We have to join them. We can’t let immigration reform get lost in the Washington noise that seems to be demanding everyone’s attention right now. Members of both parties in Congress know the system is broken and immigration reform is badly needed.
They need to hear from you, from us, that they have to do something about it now. Speaker Ryan and Senator Johnson would benefit most from hearing that message. We encourage you to contact them.
