Editorial: Mad About Bikes
MADISON, Wis. — One of our favorite components of the monthly major grants the Madison Community Foundation is handing out as part of its Year of Giving celebrating MCF’s 75th Anniversary is how each grant highlights one of our community’s most identifiable assets.
Unquestionably one of those assets is we are a great biking city, one of the best in the country and the world. So we’re delighted MCF’s eighth major grant is more than 80,000 to support a bike giveaway through the new nonprofit Free Bikes 4 Kidz Madison.
In addition to 1,000 bikes to be given away in an effort to make sure every child who wants a bike gets a bike, the grant will support new public fix-it stations, bike repair internships for community youth and safety education classes.
Mad About Bikes has almost a dozen community partner groups coordinated by the Wisconsin Bike Federation. This grant is yet another example of MCF’s 75 years of being “mad about Madison.”
