Editorial: Looking for the best ways to engage in educating our children
MADISON, Wis. — It seems it wasn’t that long ago that the word school conjured up images of imagination and curiosity, the mystery of learning and gaining knowledge, an atmosphere that could provoke both youthful anxiety and excitement and fun.
Some of that is still probably true for some. Some has necessarily changed to address changing times. But school has meaning for everyone, young people, parents and families, teacher and administrators, and taxpayers invested in turning out next generations of citizens, workers and world changers.
This year the WISC editorial board is going to look for ways we can all engage in the best ways of educating all of our kids. We’re going to look at school leadership, policies, curriculums, facilities, teacher support, parent engagement and public investment financial and otherwise. Many, many of you are worried about our schools. We all want the very best for our kids and our communities. School is a shared concern. So is equal opportunity. More on that tomorrow.
