Editorial: Expanding Suicide Prevention
Rock County and UW join in.
EXPANDING SUICIDE PREVENTION
Earlier this week we did an editorial on National Suicide Prevention Week and Safe Communities activities connected to it. But we also got a nice email from Lynn Larson in Edgerton who wanted us to know about the Youth Emotional Stability, or YES, group in Rock County which is holding a suicide awareness and prevention walk in Janesville next Saturday, and a news release on a three year campus suicide prevention grant for University Health services here in Madison.
First, we’re impressed enough by the breadth of the suicide awareness and prevention activities that we thought they warranted another editorial. But more important, both are reminders of the disproportionate impact of suicide on young people. It’s the second leading cause of death for college students. So for all the same reasons we support Safe Communities work we support YES! In Rock County and University Health Services in their efforts to talk about it, act and save lives.
