Editorial: 50 years of conservation leadership
Perhaps the most telling tribute to Bill Lunney is that there was no urgency to letting people know about his retirement celebration Wednesday. It’s been sold out for weeks now. There are no tickets available. That’s the level of esteem folks have for Lunney and his 50 years of service to Dane County including 30 as Chair of the Parks Commission.
Dane County’s parks are Lunney’s passion. He and his wife Judie Pfeifer created the Foundation for Dane County Parks and the Friends of Dane County Parks Endowment to which they devote their considerable time and energy today. But beyond that Lunney is widely respected for his policy and leadership skills in promoting and supporting Dane County Parks, and appreciated for his determination, love for conservation and his positive and upbeat personality.
Bill Lunney has already left his mark on the Dane County we love today. We join the sold-out out crowd in celebrating his remarkable contributions.
