CROSS PLAINS – Edith M. Buechner, age 95, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017.

She was born on September 17, 1921, in Cross Plains, the daughter of John V. and Catherine (Kalscheur) Saeman.

During WW II, Edith worked at the Badger Army Ammunitions plant in Baraboo and as a nanny in Madison. Edith married Florian Buechner on February 19, 1946 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cross Plains upon his return from the Aleutian Islands. This is when she took on her most important role in life as a devoted wife and mother. She was a long-time member of the Christian Mother’s Society, the American Legion Auxiliary and was a proud member of the St. Francis Xavier choir for 20 years.

Edith enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Before losing her eyesight to macular degeneration, she very much enjoyed playing cards, canning, baking, and picking hickory nuts.

She is survived by four children, John (Eileen) of Cross Plains, Jim (Diane) of Madison, Janet (Lee) Kernen of DeForest, and Rita Buechner of Green Bay; daughter-in-law, Maggie Buechner of Cross Plains; 7 grandchildren, Wendy (Todd) Weisenbeck, Debbie (Trent) Mefford, Tracy (Robert) Mickelson, Bill (Jill) Buechner, Jenny Buechner, Sherry Buechner and Scott Buechner; 7 great grandchildren, Samuel and Jackson Mefford, Carter and Ashlynn Buechner, and Clara, Daniel and Jacob Mickelson; two brothers Ken Saeman and John (Carol) Saeman, and one sister, Marie Soderholm and further survived by many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brother-in-laws Andrew Buechner, Charles (Louise) Buechner, Bill Plendl and Gil Stephan and sister-in-laws Delores Ripp and Rosie Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Florian, sons, Thomas and Mark, her parents, sister, Bernadine Buffum, sister-in-laws, Bernice Saeman, Sister Mary Buechner, Blondie Buechner, Betty Plendl, Cyrilla Stephan, Adella Buechner, and Elaine Buechner and brothers-in-law, Lee Buffum, John Soderholm, Tony Buechner, Jerome Ripp and Ken Johnson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains at 10:30 am on Thursday, April 27, 2017, with Fr. Thomas Kelley presiding. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 9:00 until the time of the Mass.
