Edgewood leads WIAA girls golf
Crusaders hold five-shot lead
MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Edgewood girls golf team has the lead in Division Two after the first round of the WIAA State Girls Golf Tournament at Cherokee Country Club.
The Crusaders are looking for their 11th state title in the last 12 years and have a five-shot lead on The Prairie School after 18 holes. Edgerton is fifth in the team competition.
Individually in Division 2, Osceola’s Casey Danielson shot 6 under par 66 to take a commanding 12-shot lead over Edgerton’s Brooke Ferrell after one round.16906750
Danielson is trying to become only the second player in state history to win four state individual golf titles. Her older sister, Lindsey, is the only player to accomplish that feat.
In Division One, Kettle Moraine has a two-shot lead over Homestead. Milton is fifth, Middleton seventh and Madison Memorial is 11th.
Waukesha’s Emily Joers has the low individual score with three-over par, while Beaver Dam’s Abby Chase and Verona’s Jessica Reinecke are tied for second at five-over..
This year’s state tournament is being played at Cherokee Country Club because University Ridge is undergoing some course renovations.
