Edgewood girls knocked out of the WIAA tournament

Madalyn Neff hit two free throws with six seconds left to give Hayward a 50-49 win over Edgewood in the division 3 seminfinals Thursday.

The Crusaders had a 12-point lead in the first half, but Hayward scored the last six points of the half to trail 30-24 at intermission.

Edgewood had a four-point lead in the final minute, but Hayward rallied again. Neff’s two free throws gave Hayward the lead, and Edgewood’s desperation shot at the buzzer fell short.

Estella Moschkau led the Crusaders with 20 points and 13 rebounds.

Neff led the Hurricanes with 23 points.

Hayward will face Milwaukee School of Languages in the Division Three championship game Saturday.

The Hawks defeated Xavier, 48-34 in the other semifinal Thursday.
