Edgewood College to host special stargazing opportunity featuring new telescope
MADISON, Wis. — Edgewood college is inviting people to test out its new telescope.
The college has planned two observing nights where its new 20-inch Obsession Dobsonian Telescope will be deployed.
“This equipment adds to the array that our students access both in and out of the classroom,” Kylee Martens, a physics instructor at Edgewood College said.
“The possibilities for meaningful undergraduate research for our students continue to expand. It’s a plus that we are able to make an impact on our communities through this sort of outreach as well.”
The telescope will be set up at the Painted Forest in Valton Wisconsin on Sept. 14 and Oct. 5.
The Painted Forest offers night skies away from city lights, allowing for the darkness needed to observe stars and other celestial bodies.
The viewings are scheduled to start at 7:45 p.m. Edgewood College is recommending people use a roadmap to reach Valton, as cellphone service can be spotty in the area.
