Edgar E. Cole

MONONA/ SUN PRAIRIE- Edgar E. Cole, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Sun Prairie Health Care Center.

He was born on June 15, 1920, in Hampden Township, the son of Ernest and Martha (Glimme) Cole. Edgar graduated from Rio High School with the class of 1938. He attended UW- Madison for two years and Madison Area Technical College for six years in several vocational classes. Edgar served during World War II from Jan. 1943 until March 1946 in Okinawa. On June 8, 1946, he married Margaret Erickson. Edgar worked building and flipping houses for many years. He was also a blacksmith and member of the UMBA (Upper Midwest Blacksmith Association). Edgar loved gardening, traveling and singing “You Are My Sunshine”.

He is survived by his brother, Wayne (Ethel) Cole of Brookfield; nieces and nephews, Martha Ann “Marty” Cole-Buss of Sun Prairie, Phillip (Sharon) Heiniger of DeForest, Marlene (Ken) Schuch of Madison, Evelyn Flint of Janesville, Mary (Al) Wait of Menomonie, Louise (John) Kronebuch of Plainview, Minn., Bertina (Ron) Sandlan of Madison, Darlene Cole (Sue) of West Bend, Roy (Mary) Heiniger of Wyoming, Mich., Barbara (Joe) Albert of Buffton, S.C. and Ernie Heiniger of Sun Prairie; a cousin; and many other nieces and nephews. Edgar was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret “Midge”; two sisters, Ailleen Heiniger and Onolee Cole; and three brothers, Floyd, Gordon and Donald Cole.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, May 22, 2014. Entombment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park with military rites being conducted. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday.

A “special thank you” to the staff at Sun Prairie Health Care Center for their superior care of Edgar, especially Mona and Barbara. His favorite expression was : “I can’t complain at all, I’ve had a wonderful life.”
