Echo Ann Houghton
Echo Ann Houghton, age 67 years of Baraboo and formerly of Wisconsin Dells died on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison. She was born on October 27, 1944 in Baraboo to Charles and Maybelle (Colburn) Krueger.
Echo graduated from Adams Friendship High School and then received a bachelor’s degree from UW Stevens Point. She was united in marriage to John Henry Houghton on January 22, 1966 in Stevens Point. Echo was a longtime resident of Wisconsin Dells before moving to Baraboo a couple years ago. She had worked at Lands End in Customer Sales for 15 years but her love was being a MOM and family along with gardening, sudoku, cryptogams, bird watching and traveling.
Survivors include her loving husband – John of Baraboo; 3 children – Patricia (Gus) Smerud of Onalaska, Thomas Houghton of Tumwater, Wash. and Mary (Thomas) Harris of Wisconsin Dells; 3 grandchildren – Leah Smerud, Kenneth (Samantha Welke) Smerud and Jospeh Smerud all of Onalaska and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother – Dean Krueger and a sister – Mona Schlaefer.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 7 PM at the Picha Funeral Home, Wisconsin Dells with Rev. Craig Wolfgram officiating. Friends may call at the Picha Funeral Home, Wisconsin Dells on Wednesday from 4 – 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Badger Chapter of the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
