Eau Claire police officer fatally shoots man
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WKBT) — A 25-year-old man with a knife is dead after being shot by an Eau Claire police officer, according to a news release.
Before 11 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to a 25-year-old man loudly knocking on doors in an apartment building in Eau Claire.
According to police, officers discovered the man was carrying a knife and he acted aggressively toward them.
After talking to the man and less lethal options, including bean bag rounds and a Taser, proved ineffective, a police officer shot him.
Officers performed life saving efforts on the man but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The La Crosse Police Department is investigating the shooting death per Wisconsin state statutes stating an outside department must investigate.
The names of the officer and the suspect have not been released but the officer is a 20-year veteran of the department.
The officer has been placed on administrative assignment.
