Eastbound Beltline reopens following police investigation into suspected road rage incident
MADISON, Wis. — The eastbound Beltline between Gammon Road and Whitney Way has reopened following a Madison police investigation Thursday.
According to an incident report, a weapons offense took place on the Beltline near South Whitney Way at around 12:30 p.m. Police said an occupied vehicle was hit by gunfire after a suspected road rage incident, and a passenger suffered minor injuries.
The closure led to major backups on the Beltline, extending all the way back to the Old Sauk Road exit near Middleton.
The closure lasted about an hour as officers searched for evidence of the shooting.
Backups began to clear just before 3 p.m. once traffic was reopened.
The MPD’s Violent Crime Unit is continuing to investigate. Those with information on the incident are encouraged to call Madison police at 608-255-2345.
