Early-morning fire engulfs home in Stoughton
Neighbor helped residents get out of home
STOUGHTON, Wis. — A number of people are looking for a new place to live following an early-morning blaze at a Stoughton home on Wednesday.
Authorities said that the call came in just after midnight about a house fire on 5th Street in Stoughton.
Neighbors said large flames were coming out of one side of the building, where more than one family lives. One of the neighbors who saw the flames responded quickly to help.
“The left side of the house was in flames,” said Darcy Lalimo. “I just started pounding on the windows, yelling their names to get them out of the house.14853396
“No one was responding at first, so i started breaking windows, busting their door, their screen door open,” said Lalimo.
She said the man and his children got out, but she wasn’t sure if the other residents of the house had escaped.
Another neighbor said Lalimo’s quick response made all the difference.
No one was hurt in the fire, authorities said.
