Drug 5,000 times more potent than heroin makes its way into Dane County
MIDDLETON, Wis. — Officials confirm a drug considered 5,000 times more potent than heroin has made its way into Dane County. Carfentanil is considered so potent that a 2 milligram dose can be deadly.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office said carfentanil is the cause of the three Milwaukee-area deaths. Middleton officials said they responded to a carfentanil overdose Tuesday.
Authorities responded to a call for an unresponsive male off of Demming Way in Middleton around 7:15 p.m. Authorities believe carfentanil was the cause of the overdose.
Jennifer Selleck, a paramedic in Middleton, said it’s a sign that more dangerous and potent drugs have entered our area.
“These drugs are getting stronger, in the past you could give a dose of Narcan to wake them up an everything was good,” Selleck said. “Things are stronger now it’s taking multiple doses for the things that are floating around now.”
