Driver killed, two others hurt in state Highway 33 crash
Crash happened in Sauk County
EXCELSIOR TOWNSHIP, Wis. — A driver was killed and two other people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash on state Highway 33 on Wednesday night in Sauk County.
Authorities were notified of the crash at 5:29 p.m. when a report came of the crash on Highway 33 at the intersection of Coon Bluff Road in the Town of Excelsior, according to the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators said they think a vehicle was stopped in the eastbound lane of Highway 33 and was turning north onto Coon Bluff Road when it was rear-ended by a vehicle headed eastbound. This crash caused the stopped vehicle to cross over the center line and into the westbound lane of traffic, where it was struck by a westbound vehicle head-on, authorities said.
The driver of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers of the other vehicles and an infant passenger were transported to St. Clare Hospital by Reedsburg ambulance workers.
Authorities said the victims’ names are being withheld as authorities notify families.
Sheriff’s Office officials said they and the Wisconsin State Patrol are investigating the crash.
