Dr. Thomas S. Goltry
Dr. Thomas S. Goltry, 78, of Platteville, Wisconsin, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
Tom was born on March 2, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of T. Keith and Nelle (Coop) Goltry. He was united in marriage to Carole Reese on August 12, 1961, at Dodgeville Methodist Church. He graduated from Fairfield High School, and received his BS in Speech and Theatre from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville known as Wisconsin State College and Institute of Technology in 1961. He received his MS from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1963, and later in 1969, Tom graduated with a Ph.D. in Speech and Theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Dr. Goltry taught at Western Illinois, Central Washington State College, and at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he started in 1970. Tom retired in 2000, ending his career as a full professor and the Department Chair of Fine Arts. He is remembered as a co-director of the Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival from 1976-1999.
Tom is survived by his wife, Carole of Platteville; sister, Marge Curson of New Jersey; two children Scott Goltry of Platteville, and Anne (Bill) Otto of Platteville; and three granddaughters, Hayley Goltry, Molly Otto and Lilly Otto.
A private family service is planned for a later date. The Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, is serving the family.
