MADISON-Douglas Klitzkie, age 75, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Oak Park Place.
He was born on Oct. 24, 1941, the son of LeRoy and Winifred (Douglas) Klitzkie in Whitewater. After graduating from Whitewater High School, Doug attended UW-Whitewater, earning his bachelor’s degree in Education. He married Georgia McDonald on May 4, 1968 in Rhinelander.
Doug was employed as health inspector for the State of Wisconsin for over 30 years until his retirement. With the State, Doug was named Environmental Health Professional of the Year in 1989-90; he was chairperson of the Dane County Republican Party and enjoyed attending the state and a national conventions. Doug was a lifelong member of the NRA and coordinated their yearly banquets. He was a proud volunteer railroad conductor at the Mid-Continent Railway Museum in North Freedom, and loved conversing with the many people there.
Doug enjoyed the outdoors and camping at various Wisconsin State and RV Parks, but loved most spending time with family and friends.
In addition to Georgia, his wife of 48 years, survivors include his daughters, Jennifer (Zachary) Obert and Stephanie Klitzkie; his grandchildren, Emma and Sean Obert; three brothers, Ronald (Bonnie) Klitzkie, Terry (Phyllis) Klitzkie and Donald (Chris) Klitzkie; his sister, Linda (Jim) Hoelzel; and other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
