Dorothy M. Venden

Monticello, WI/New Glarus, WI–Dorothy M. Venden, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Hometown Assisted Living in Belleville.  She was born on November 22, 1921 at Camp Clark Ranch in Bridgeport, Nebraska to her parents Oscar and Esther (Anderson) Elmquist.  Dorothy attended Deuel County School District #24 in Nebraska.  On December 19, 1944 she was united in marriage to Kyle H. Venden at Chappell, Nebraska.  Dorothy was a farm wife, waitress, cook, custodian, and part-time chauffer along with being a mother.  She was a member of the York Memorial Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school there along with being a member of the Ladies Aid, Hannah Circle, and a member of the choir.  Dorothy also was a leader for 4-H.  She enjoyed being with family and friends and she always tried to help anyone in any way she could.  Dorothy loved her gardens and was happy anytime she saw her hummingbirds.  She also enjoyed playing cards, especially canasta, along with dominoes “chickenfeet” with the kids, going out for coffee, chatting with friends, and drives with family around the countryside.

Dorothy is survived by her children Marvin Venden of Monticello, WI, Ronald (Kathy) Venden of Blanchardville, WI, and Lois Venden of New Glarus, WI, grandchildren; Jody Venden, Julianne Draeger, Scott (Lori) Venden, Jenilyn (J.R. Rosensteil) Venden, Jason Venden, Paul (Cheryl) Venden, Brian (Danielle) Venden, Sherri Barreau, and Kevin (Rhonda Briggs) Venden, great-grandchildren; Brittany, Kayla (Andrue), Johnathan, Jesse, Drake, Bailey, Emily, Tristan, Prestan, Taylor, Tina, Jordyn, Blake, Kaylee, Azaleigh, Kaden, Gabrelle, Jayden, Pamela, Jennifer, and Alexis, great-great-grandchildren; Mikael, Isabella, Stella, and Aisha.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Kyle, sisters; Ellen Williamson and LaVerne Cramer, brother Carl “Bud” Elmquist, brothers-in-law; Lawrence Williamson and John Cramer, Morris Venden, and Otis Jacobson, sisters-in-law; Evelyn Venden, Helen Jacobson, Evelyn Dieckhoff, mother-in-law and father-in-law Melvin and Lula Venden, and a great-grandson Xavier Barreau.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 6 th Ave., New Glarus, WI with Pastor Mary Gafner officiating with burial in the York Memorial Cemetery rural Blanchardville.

Relatives and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home in New Glarus.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
