Dorothy Leonard

Dorothy Leonard

DeForest — Dorothy(Ganser) Leonard passed away on September 20, 2013 at the age of 63.

She was married to her loving and caring husband, Don, for 43 years and together they raised four cherished children, A.J., Ted, Chris and Tina. The family expanded when they married four great people who she also considered her children; Kristine, Sarah, Erin and Jonathan. Then came the lights of her life– the grandkids – Devin, Joshua, Alison, Alexa, Louise, James, Claire, Henry, and Anna.

She defined the word Grandma with her love, smile and enthusiasm; especially when it came to running around the house with pull toys. She had a special gift in caring for others, particularly children and the elderly.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dolores (Endres) Ganser; and father, Linus Ganser; brother- in-law, Joe Kroda; sister-in- law, Laura Ganser and grandchildren, Dani and Alvord Leonard.

She wanted to thank all the members of her immediate family, her siblings, her in-laws, relatives, Father Butz, her Church family, her elderly friends, her former co-workers, classmates, friends at Piggly Wiggly, neighbors, Dr. Stella, Dr. Howard, the chemo and radiology technicians, Agrace Hospice Care, and everyone else who prayed, visited or supported her through her final journey. It meant so very much to her.

Her life was full of much love, many blessings and great adventures. She treasured time with family and loved being outdoors. She had magic hands that made chocolate chip cookies that were beyond compare; she traveled the world visiting her kids and she ran a marathon at age 60. She also enjoyed and excelled at hunting, gardening, cooking, bird watching and making us laugh.

She was the foundation of our family – a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. She helped us through our hardest days and cheered the loudest on our best days. We will miss her always.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 27, 2013, at ST. OLAF CATHOLIC CHURCH, 623 Jefferson St., DeForest, with Father Robert J. Butz presiding. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2013, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, WINDSOR/DEFOREST CHAPEL, 6924 Lake Road, and again on Saturday at the church from 9:15 a.m. until the time of Mass.

In lieu of flowers, she requested donations be made to St. Olaf Catholic Church, Friends of the Yahara River Headwaters, or the Ronald McDonald House. To view and sign this guestbook, please visit: www.ryanfuneralservice.com.
