Dorothy Hulsether Olson, 103, died Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Maplewood Nursing Home, Sauk City.

She was born to Henry and Martha (Brice) Fett, on April 22, 1911, in Cobb, WI. Dorothy graduated from Fennimore High School in 1928, and after Teacher’s Training, taught at Cass Hollow School for several years. She married Neil Hulsether, Feb. 20, 1932, in the Castle Rock Parsonage. They farmed the Hulsether family farm near Montfort, until Neil’s death in 1971. She was proud to have the farm declared a Century Farm in 1985. She worked at the Nelson Ice Cream Factory, Cobb Canning Factory, and was a CNA at the Good Samaritan Home in Fennimore. She married William Olson in 1974. Later Dorothy lived in Fennimore, Montfort, Dodgeville, and enjoyed 10 contented years at Maplewood Village and Maplewood Nursing Home in Sauk City.

Dorothy traveled extensively in the US and Canada, and enjoyed a memorable visit to her father’s ancestral home in Neiderasphe, Germany where her cousin’s granddaughter, Monika Seidel, still lives. She was an active member of Castle Rock Lutheran Church for many years and served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent, choir member, and president of Ladies Aid. She was a 4-H leader for several years. Dorothy stressed the importance of education to her children and passed on her love of reading and the outdoors.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands; daughter, Fanchon; sisters, Eleanor Hanson, Irma Nelson, and Elizabeth Fett; brothers-in-law, Nathan Nelson and Russell Hanson; sister-in-law, Marian Fett, and son-in-law, Bill Beach.

She is survived by her brother, Robert Fett; daughters, Kay (Jerry) Buhrow, Natalie Beach, and son, Brian (Leola) Hulsether. Ten grandchildren, Steven Buhrow, Laurie (Gary) Bauer, Brad Buhrow, Brian Buhrow, Tim (Mary) Beach, Greg (Deb) Beach, Allison (Jim) Hellmann, Brent (Nicole) Hulsether, Anne Hulsether, and Nicholas (Tricia) Hulsether; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and cousin, Gordon Ware.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Castle Rock Lutheran Church, Fennimore, WI. Preceded by visitation at 10:30 until time of service. Interment in Castle Rock Cemetery, will follow service.

Memorials may be made to Castle Rock Lutheran Church or Castle Rock Cemetery Association.

The family wishes to thank Maplewood Village and Maplewood Nursing Home staff for their loving care and concern. A special thanks to Karen Volker, for filling our mother’s last years with love, laughter, and kindness.
