MONONA-Dorothy Bronson, age 86, passed away at her home on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, surrounded by her family and her dog, Socks, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born on June 29, 1926, in Madison, the fifth of 12 children of Charles and Lona (Crawford) Horton. Dorothy attended Madison Central High School and grew up in the Greenbush neighborhood. She met Everett “Red” Bronson while he was stationed at Truax. They were married on Sept. 15, 1945. Dorothy was a wonderful mother. After raising her children, she worked as a cook. Dorothy was a member of the VFW Post No. 7591 Auxiliary. She loved country music and spending time up north. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family. Family was very important to her; she will be remembered for having little treats every time she would visit her family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Sharon Bronson of Monona, Jackie (Rod) Spors of Appleton, Jean (Jim) Kossow of Madison, Jeff Bronson of Brussels, Belgium, Jim (Diane) Bronson of Elkhorn and Kim (Roy) Boyd of Monona; eight grandchildren, Daryl (Briana) Spors, Derek (Erin) Spors, Barry (Katie) Spors, Meghan (Jeff) Schwartz, Alice Kossow and Brandon, Bridget and Olivia Boyd; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Pharo and Dixie Lee (Naz) Amery; brother, Robert (Mary) Horton; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Delarond and Delores Nichols, both of Cape Cod, Mass. and Faye Ferris of Rome, N.Y. ; brother-in-law, Millard (Maxine) Bronson of Raleigh, N.C. , and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett “Red”; her parents; sisters, Jane (Vic) Goecks, Juanita (Don) Beckwith, Bernadine (Robert) Slinde, Ruthie (Tom) Lawler, Francis (Troy) Dickert, Pat (Dale) Storck, and Fern (Robert) Andrese; and brothers, Frank (Marion) Horton and Donald Horton; sister-in-law, Phyllis (Doug) Ames; and brothers-in-law, Harold Bronson and Howard Pharo.

Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012. Burial will be at Blooming Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
