Dorothy Abbie Wilcox, age 92, passed away at her residence on Friday, May 30, 2014. Dorothy welcomed New Year’s Day, born at home on Farwell Street in Madison Wisconsin on January 1, 1922 to Ernest and Abbie Lodema (nee Hatch) Herrick. Her father had worked on construction of the new East Side High School a few blocks away. Dorothy and her sister Bonnie were raised for several years in foster care by Mr. and Mrs. Barnwell.

Dorothy married Darwin “Dick” Wilcox on November 9, 1940. Dorothy attended Franklin Elementary School and graduated from Madison West High School in 1940. She was employed at Prange-Way and Copp’s Department Store and volunteered at the Labor Temple.

Dorothy is survived by her son Terry Lee (Deborah) Wilcox of Cottage Grove, grandsons Jay Wilcox and Kurt Wilcox, granddaughter Stacy Wilcox, great-grandchildren Jason, Katelyn, Colton and Kyle, great- great-grandson Aiden, her deceased son’s wife Nancy Magestro (formerly Wilcox) and her sons, Tony and Tory, sister-in-law Mabel Herrick and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy is also survived by her special friend since the 1940s, Bertha Syrja.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband Darwin “Dick” Wilcox on May 22, 1990, son Ronald Louis Wilcox on January 25, 1970 in an accident in Alaska and grandson Richard Todd Wilcox on April 13, 2002. Dorothy was also preceded in death by all nine siblings, Naomi Blanche (Richard) Willard, Albert Earl (Marjory), Lyman Duane, Derryl George (Beth), infant Ernest Ralph, Myron Ernest, Bonita Avalon (William) Drone, Thelma Lucille Harding and infant Robert.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and residents of Raymond House, Care Wisconsin, and Heartland Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N. Sherman Ave., with Chaplain Susan Greenler presiding. Burial will follow at St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home on Tuesday.
