Dorf Haus wins “Most Fabulous Fish Fry”
The results are in! German-inspired Dorf Haus Supper Club takes home the win for Madison Magazine‘s Fabulous Fish Fry contest.
The Sauk City eatery’s Friday-night fish fry features haddock covered in a flavorful batter and topped with crisp and light breading. It’s served with homemade fritters and a choice of fries or German potato salad and cole slaw.
And bonus: It’s all-you-can-eat!
Dorf Haus co-owner Rebecca Maier-Frey says the secret to their success is carrying on the Wisconsin heritage.
“No other place does fish fry like southern Wisconsin,” she says. “At Dorf Haus you get the best in fish fry, the best in supper club and a nice Brandy Old Fashioned.”
The restaurant has had time to perfect their fish fry. Dorf Haus opened in 1959 and has been family owned ever since. Maier-Frey, who co-owns the restaurant with her brother Monte, says the family roots are what make Dorf Haus so unique—for her family and others alike. “We have generations of families eating here,” she says.
After more than fifty years in business, Dorf Haus and their famous—and now fabulous—fish fry are here to stay.
