Donated coats collected for annual campaign
Winter coat drive collects winter items for those in need
MADISON, Wis. — This year, the 27th annual Koats for Kids will once again collect winter coats and clothing for individuals and families in need.
Local residents are encouraged to donate gently-worn winter outerwear, non-leather caps, scarves, and mittens pinned in pairs to any Klinke Cleaners. Donations will be cleaned free of charge by Klinke Cleaners and then given to the Community Action Coalition for distribution.
Area schools will also take part in the “Collect-A-Coat Contest.” The schools which collect the largest total number of coats and the most coats per capita will receive commemorative plaques.
WISC-TV3, Klinke Cleaners, the Community Action Coalition, and Magic 98 (98.1 FM) will partner for this campaign. Koats for Kids update segments, including daily coat totals and additional campaign information, will air Monday through Friday on NEWS 3 This Morning and Monday through Saturday on NEWS 3 at Six. Campaign progress will also be broadcast during the week on Magic 98’s Morning Show with Bob Bonner and Pat O’Neill.
Organizers stress that only winter outerwear is needed at this time and all donated items must be in good repair. While all sizes are requested, infant and toddler snowsuits and jackets, larger teen jackets (sizes 16-22) and oversized adult outerwear (XXXL and larger) are in greatest demand.
Since its inception, area residents, school children and businesses have donated over 270,000 coats to the campaign.
Volunteers are still needed to help sort coats and assist the Community Action Coalition on distribution dates. To volunteer, contact Katie Castern, C.A.C. Manager of Agency Development, at email@example.com.
The campaign will run from Monday, Sept. 10 to Saturday, Oct. 6.
