MADISON-Donald Winkelman, age 76, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his home.
He was born on Jan. 8, 1938, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the son of Milton and Lillian (Ausenhus) Winkelman. He married Judith Hansen on May 3, 1963, in Milwaukee. Don served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was a great neighbor and story-teller, who never spoke negatively about anyone. Don was very gifted with his hands and could fix anything. He retired from Meriter Hospital after 35 years as an electrician and had friends throughout. Don and Judy enjoyed day trips around Wisconsin, especially when the grandchildren tagged along.
He is survived by his children, Carol (Dan) Ellis and Duane (Laura) Winkelman; grandchildren, Megan (Jason Mikula) and Lyndsey Ellis and Ryan and Mackenzie Winkelman; great-granddaughter, Stella Grace Mikula; sister, Betty Winkelman; and sister-in-law, Ruth Winkelman. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother; Richard “Tex” Winkelman.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2014.
