Donald W. Wunderlin, 89, of Platteville died on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Southwest Health Center Hospital, Platteville.

Donald was born on December 21, 1924 in Platteville Township, the son of Joseph A. and Laura J. (Linden) Wunderlin. He attended Maple Glen country school, St. Mary’s Grade School and Platteville High School. He was inducted into the Army Air Corp in 1945 and discharged in 1946. In 1950 he was inducted into the Army Ordinance Corp and discharged in 1952, after his discharge he served in the Army Reserves for five years until being discharged in 1957. Don was a member of the Grant County Draft Board for 15 years. He worked for Klar Implement, Platteville, for three years. He and his brother David owned and operated D & D Hardware Store, Platteville, for several years, until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post #42. In his spare time he enjoyed cooking and baking.

He is survived by four brothers, Cletus, Stanley (Carol R.), Mark (Marlene) and Wayne (Kris) Wunderlin; two sisters, Doris Lefler-Kitto and Kathleen Schulte; sisters-in-law, Carol A. Wunderlin and Helen Wunderlin; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, David, Lawrence and Raymond, sister-in-law, Lucille Wunderlin, and brothers-in-law, Dale Lefler, Don Kitto and Joe Schulte.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Platteville. Rev. Faustino Ruiz will officiate.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Platteville, where military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post #42 and VFW Post #5274. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, where there will be a parish rosary at 3:45 p.m.; friends may also call from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
