Donald D. Fine
MADISON-Donald Dean Fine, age 87, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Oak Park Memory Care.
He was born on Jan. 19, 1930, in Linden, Wis., the son of Frank and Lida (Roberts) Fine. After graduating high school, Don served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married his high school sweetheart, Josephine Benson on Nov. 7, 1953, in Mineral Point.
Don owned College Barber Shop, 665 State St., Madison, where he was a downtown icon for over 60 years.
Don was very proud of his home and backyard pool. He and Josephine spent many hours entertaining friends and relatives and enjoyed a few brandy manhattans. Don was always the life of the party and was quick to make you laugh.
He is survived by his sons, Jeff (Teri) of Cottage Grove, and Jay (Nancy Smithback) of Madison; grandsons, Dustin (Sarah) Fine, and Toby Adams; great-granddaughter, Genna Adams; as well as many relatives, good friends, and loyal customers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; parents; and many other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 12 noon, on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017, with Pastor Brad Van Fossen presiding. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
