Donald Alfred Bongey
Verona-Donald Alfred Bongey, age 85, passed peacefully into eternity on September 23, 2012, at home, surrounded by his family. He was born August 16th, 1927 in Beloit, Wisconsin, to Kathleen Day and Alfred Bongey. He graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine, served his country as a corpsman in the United States Navy during World War II, and went on to graduate from U.W. Madison School of Pharmacy in 1950. He was united in marriage to Ruth Godding on August 3, 1950. In 1958 he moved his young family to the village of Verona and opened Verona Pharmacy. He proudly served his community for 46 years, caring for his customers as though they were his family, treating everyone with kindness and respect.
He is survived in death by his wife, Ruth Bongey of Verona, his children, Pam (Blaine) McAllister of Verona, Bonnie (Larry) Leonard of Osceola, WI and Gary Bongey of Verona; 3 grandchildren, Jessica (Jason) Grasl, Kaitlin Reed, and Nathan Bongey; 1 great-grandchild, Madeline Reed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Dale Bongey; and his dear friend and business partner, Robert Shimon.
He was the most loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be forever missed. Go in peace and sleep well… You’ve earned it.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at St. James Lutheran Church, 427 S. Main St., Verona, with Rev. Peter Narum officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 PM to 8 PM on Friday, September 28th at the Ryan Funeral Home, 220 Enterprise Drive and also from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Burial will follow at Verona Cemetery.
