Donald A. Grieves

Donald A. Grieves, age 91, of Baraboo, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at St. Clare Hospital in Baraboo after complications with heart congestion.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Baraboo with Pastor Nick Maglietto officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Military Honors will be provided, followed by a Memorial Luncheon at Trapper’s Turn in Wisconsin Dells.

Donald was born August 21, 1926 in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, the son of Raymond and Marion (Hanson) Grieves. “Don” was a beloved role model and friend to many. He was a loyal family man who enjoyed being around his loved ones and being part of their lives. During WWII he was in the US Navy as a Signalmen. He met his wife, Berniece (Erickson) and was married for over 66 years. After their retirement, the two of them (for over 20 years) would winter in Winter Haven, FL. Don loved baseball. He played “Senior Ball” in Florida. Don’s hobbies were fishing and hunting. He hunted Elk in the Western States as well as Whitetail in Wisconsin and Pheasants with his wife in South Dakota. He also fished in Canada with his friends, his dad and his sons. Also, had an opportunity to deep sea fish in Mexico several times for “Big Tuna”. Don and his wife enjoyed traveling around the country. Places like Las Vegas, NV and California. An ATM-track train ride took them to their grandson (Erick, Jr.) who is in the Navy in Seattle, WA. He also enjoyed several cruises to the Bahamas and Alaska. Don was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and attended many Bible studies. He also was a member of the Lake Delton Fire Department for over 25 years as well as a member of the American Legion. Don loved playing cards (Sheepshead), loved bingo and was an avid baseball and “Packer” fan. Don will be truly missed by every life he touched. He was kindhearted man with a twinkle in his eye, that will never be forgotten.

Donald is survived by his wife, Berniece; sons, Erick (Darlene) Grieves of Wisconsin Dells, WI and Grant (Chris) Grieves of Reedsburg, WI; daughter, Kari Ann Grieves of Las Vegas, NV; sister, Charlotte (John) Trumble of Wisconsin Dells; brother, James (Sharon) Grieves of Beloit, WI his grandchildren, Erick, Jr. (Elizabeth) Grieves, Katie Grieves, Becca (Bryan) Szydlowski, Selene Grieves and Angelene Grieves and his 4 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Bryanna, Julie and Viktoria as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Audrey Le Mier; his 2 infant children, Dennis and Kari and other relatives and friends.
