Dona Ireland

Dona Ireland

Sun Prairie-Dona Ireland age 85, of Sun Prairie, passed away on Tuesday Feb. 18th, 2014.

She was born on Dec. 19, 1928. The youngest of three children born to Ralph and Gertrude (Tully) Wallace of Waukesha, WI. She grew up in Waukesha and attended Pius XI High School in Milwaukee, WI. In addition to her scholastic studies she took voice lessons and learned and enjoyed several Opera’s. She also attended one day of tap dance. While in high school she discovered a passion for drawing and exploring artistic outlets. Her love of art followed her throughout her life and gave her great joy.

Following high school Dona worked for a couple of firms in Milwaukee. She worked at GE, The Pfister Hotel, and Robert W. Baird. The position she held at Robert W. Baird was previously held only by men. She was proud of the fact that she was able break through some of the stereotypes that identified gender as a career prerequisite.

On June 28th, 1958 she married Robert J. Ireland and entered a loving relationship for 28 years. They had three children Tom (Mary Sue) Ireland, Dan Ireland, and Kathy Ireland. She has three grandchildren Molly Ireland Garcia, Harry Nelson, and Scarlet Nelson.

She is survived by her Son Tom (Mary Sue), Daughter Kathy Ireland, and Grandchildren Molly Ireland Garcia, Harry Nelson and Scarlet Nelson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, son Dan, parents Ralph and Gertrude Wallace, brother William (Jack) Wallace, and sister Ann Serzow.

We will remember our mother for the many gifts she gave to us. Among those we found remarkable was her strength and resiliency. She was faced with several daunting obstacles in her life and she met each one with strength, dignity and a deep sense of faith.

A Memorial Mass for Dona will be held 11:00AM, Friday, February 21, 2014 at Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic Church, 221 Columbus Street, Sun Prairie with Monsignor Duane Moellenberndt presiding.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
