DOJ: Dane Co. Sheriff’s Office halting search for stabbing suspect

CROSS PLAINS, Wis. – The Dane Co. Sheriff’s Office is no longer searching for a suspect they say stabbed a deputy Thursday night.

The Department of Justice announced Saturday that there is no longer a danger to the public.

The DOJ is investigating the incident, which occurred at Festge Park outside of Cross Plains.

Police say deputies were investigating a suspicious person at the park when a suspect stabbed a deputy.

The deputy fired her weapon at the suspect after the stabbing and the suspect fled.

It is unknown if the suspect was hit by gunfire.

The deputy spent a brief period of time in the hospital before being released Friday.

The DOJ’s investigation remains ongoing.
