DNR files complaints with DOJ against manure digester
Clear Horizons faces possible fines for alleged violations
MADISON, Wis. — The Department of Natural Resources has passed along complaints against the Clear Horizons manure digester to the Department of Justice.
The charges are in connection to reports of alleged violations, including discharge without a permit and failure to submit reports.
The Clear Horizons digester near Waunakee ran into multiple problems this year, like a broken pipe that spilled 380,000 gallons of manure and an explosion involving methane gas.
Company officials said they added staff and changed some of their systems to prevent any more issues.
With this week’s developments, DOJ lawyers can now go to court to seek fines under state law.
