DNR board to vote on plan for rec area at former Badger Army Ammunition Plant

People could shoot rockets, ride motorcycles and train hunting dogs at a southern Wisconsin recreation area under a plan the Department of Natural Resources’ board is expected to vote on Wednesday..

The DNR’s master plan for the Sauk Prairie State Recreation area includes creating a site for model rocket clubs, motorcycle use on some trails and a 72-acre hunting dog training area. The Sauk Prairie Conservation Alliance wants to return the area to native prairie and allow only quiet activities. The group filed a lawsuit last week challenging the master plan.

The 3,000-acre recreation area is located on the site of the former Badger Army Ammunition Plant between Sauk City and Baraboo.
